St. Patrick’s Day in Vienna
Green, green, green everywhere. Even people in Vienna are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. The Burgtheater shines in green, people are drinking green beer to their green popcorn. The begins with a mass at the Schottenstift reminding us that this day is not only about drinking and partying and it seems that just like St. Patrick converted pagans in Ireland Viennese got converted to celebrate this day. And even though St. Patrick’s Day is on Thursday, 17 March All this will commence on Saturday, 19th March in the morning.
Participants at this parade will come from all parts of society – be it the Irish Embassy in Vienna, the Austro-Irish Society or even Irish Setters. The parade will end at the Stiegl Ambulanz at the Alte AKH. Plus a number of sights in Vienna will be lit up in green including the Wiener Riesenrad, bridges at the Donaukanal and the Wiener Burgtheater.
